When I opened up to this W Magazine shoot of Bruce Willis and his then new wife Emma Heming in 2009, I knew I’d found my inspiration. Mesmerized by the way photographer Steven Klein had captured the couples attraction and sexuality coupled with a narrative high fashion look, I set out to recreate the shoot. My goal in emulating the shoots’ look and feel was to try out this type of photography to see if it inspired me as much as looking at photos of this style shot by others.
I enlisted my good friends Sam and Bogart, as they were looking to do a unique couples shoot. Along with stylist Sara Jensen and lighting assistant Nate Biddle, we spent the day in three different locations, coming up with some original ideas and also attempting to recreate the Bruce and Emma shoot. We produced images that spanned from sexual and provocative to fun (and funny) with a high-fashion feel.
Through it all I realized this was the way I wanted to shoot couples. Simultaneously I received regular requests from friends to shoot their weddings. Fast forward a few years and my style of shooting couples’ weddings with a narrative angle came to life.
What I’ve done so far is only the beginning of what’s to come…
